Appendix: The Interface

  • Here we'll discuss the interface, i.e., the bunch of buttons at the top of your MouseHunt page. It looks something like this:
    The interface
  • HitGrab Bar: HitGrab is the company that owns and maintains MouseHunt. This bar contains:
    • A link to their website (HitGrab Logo)
    • Invite: Same as "Invite Friends" below
    • Gift: Same as "Send Free Gifts" below
    • Community: Allows you to access the forums, the Facebook fanpage, and the news.
    • The amount of Super Brie you currently have
    • The speech balloon is the alert feed, which gives you notifications on things that may require your attention, such as a message posted on your profile, or a gift being sent to you.
    • The question mark leads you to various help and support links.
  • Ticker: The box of text below the HitGrab bar, with previous and next buttons to the left. This is a news ticker, used by the developers of MouseHunt to post important news.
  • Hunters Online: The total number of MouseHunters that are online.
  • Friends Online: Here you can check up on your Facebook friends that also play MouseHunt. Note that the list of friends may differ from the friends that Facebook tells you are online. That's because MouseHunt defines "online" as having accessed MouseHunt within the past hour.
  • Hunter's Horn: Appears 15 minutes since the last sounding (either by you or your friends in the same location). Blow the horn as often as you can to see if you can catch a mouse!
  • Shield: The big shield to the left is actually a link. It leads to your Hunter's Profile, which you can use to show other MouseHunters your progress. Note that the journal here differs from that of your camp, only displaying your catches and not your misses.
  • Camp: Shows a detailed journal of every hunt.
  • Marketplace: Allows you to trade certain in-game items for gold, and vice versa. Only certain items may be traded.
  • Donate: Allows you to donate to the developers of MouseHunt, to collect SUPER|Brie+, a cheese with special properties. Learn more about SUPER|Brie+ here.
  • Travel: Allows you to travel to other locations of the game. You can sometimes save gold in travelling by making detours; use the Travel Planner to find them.
  • Inventory: Composed of several sections:
    • Cheese: Here you can view the amount of cheese you own, or arm a different type of cheese.
    • Traps: Here you can view the trap components (weapons and bases) you own, or arm a different weapon or base.
    • Crafting: Only accessible as an Apprentice or higher. This gives access to your crafting interface, used to create other items from your crafting items using a specific recipe, and your Hunter's Hammer, used to smash non-crafting items into crafting items. You can also view a list of your crafting items.
    • Potions: In your travels you may come across potions that are dropped by mice. These potions can be used to transform your cheese into other types of cheese. Some locations require you to use cheese that can only be obtained by using potions.
    • Maps: This contains a list of your maps, keys, and other items that allow you access to new hunting locations in the kingdom.
    • Special: This contains a list of your convertible and miscellaneous items. This includes the things that you must "open" in order to receive the items inside.
    • Collectibles: This contains a list of items considered "collectibles", which others can view from your profile. These items are typically released for special events, and usually have no other use.
    • Torn Pages: Lists the pages of Plankrun's Journal you own. Legend has it that Plankrun was the very first MouseHunter, who laid down the path for what we do today. Unfortunately, his journal has been lost to the mists of time, with only a few pages remaining that are scattered across the kingdom.
      • The pages are not important for your progress through the game and are only for backstory and bragging rights. I might add an appendix on the pages in the future.
  • Shops: Composed of several sections. Some sections may not be available at your location.
    • Trapsmith: Sells trap components, i.e. weapons and bases.
    • Cheese Shoppe: Sells cheese. It is recommended that you get all your cheese from the Town of Gnawnia, as it is the cheapest location.
    • General Store: Sells crafting items, used to craft other items with.
    • Cartographer: You can only really use this when you get to the Bazaar. The cartographer repairs partially damaged maps to reveal additional hunting locations.
    • Charm Shoppe: Only available in certain locations. Sells charms and materials related to them. Charms are consumable items that can be equipped to give a small boost to your trap.
    • Marketplace: Same as Marketplace above.
    • Prize Shoppe: Allows you to redeem King's Credits for various in-game items. King's Credits are earnable during certain special events.
  • Mice: A list of mice with descriptions. Mice pictures are a question mark if not caught by any hunter (probably yet to be released), a silhouette if caught by at least one hunter somewhere, and a full-color picture if caught by you.
  • Friends: Composed of several sections:
    • Hunting Group: Same as Friends Online above.
    • Give to Friends: Only accessible as an Apprentice or up. This can be used to give gold, Super Brie, or certain items to your friends.
    • Invite Friends: Here you can invite your Facebook friends to play MouseHunt.
    • Send Free Gifts: These allow you to send "free gifts" to your friends. This isn't a redundancy; these gifts are "free" in that they don't cost you anything to send; the item is created when you send it. There is a limit of items that you can send a day. This is also where you access the Festive Gift Shoppe, which appears during some special events, and contains gifts that do require gold to send.
  • Lore: Composed of several sections:
    • How To Play: Basic information about the game; a recommended read if you're starting out.
    • Scoreboards: You can view your standing against other MouseHunters here.
    • Hunter's Wiki: A fan-maintained encyclopedia about all things MouseHunt. If you need info on a specific mouse, location, trap, etc. in MouseHunt, here's where to look.
    • FAQ: Frequently asked questions; a section of the MouseHunt Wiki.
    • Apparel: MouseHunt T-shirts and merchandise.
    • Live Dev Chat: Here's where you can access a live stream to talk directly to a developer of MouseHunt. Watch the news ticker for an announcement regarding what time the live stream will begin.
  • News: Links to official update information from the developers.
  • Forums: Links to the forums. Use this to interact with the MouseHunt community: ask questions, compete in competitions, etc. Just be sure not to beg or demand gold or SUPER|Brie+; it is considered rude. A little politeness, respect, and willingness to learn will go a long way when dealing with other MouseHunters.
  • The blue region contains your status in the game:
    • Location: Your current location.
    • Title: Your current hunter's title, and your progress toward the next one. You can hover over the bar graph for a more exact percentage. The currently known titles are:
      • Novice
      • Apprentice
      • Journeyman
      • Master
      • Grandmaster
      • Legendary
      • Hero
      • Knight
      • Lord/Lady
      • Baron/Baroness
      • Count/Countess
      • Duke/Duchess
      • Grand Duke/Grand Duchess
      • Archduke/Archduchess
    • Base: Your currently equipped trap base.
    • Weapon: Your currently equipped trap weapon.
    • Trap Power: The power of your trap; a combined score based on your base and weapon. Note however that power is only one of several factors that determine your success with the trap. For an in-depth explanation of the other factors, view the appendix on Trap Mechanics.
    • Gold: The currency of the game. Normally earned by catching mice; all mice have a bounty placed on them. There are other ways to earn gold detailed here.
    • Points: Your "experience" or "score" in the game. Trapsmiths have point requirements for the purchase of their items. These are usually surpassed before the gold needed is earned, unless you have received gold from others through competitions or gifts.
    • Cheese: The type of cheese you are using, and the quantity remaining.
    • Team: Links to your team profile. See the Tournaments appendix for more information.
