Event Sidequest: Return of the Haunted Terrortories! (Halloween 2013)

  • On October 17, 2013, the Return of the Haunted Terrortories! event was started, and the Haunted Terrortories (not a typo; but a bad pun :p ) location was opened.
  • First, you should set whether to Trick or Treat friends who visit your page by going to your own profile (click on the shield). Pick either one.
  • Then, click on "Friends" and visit your friends profiles, and clicking the "Trick or Treat" button. You may get a Treat, and therefore 3 Candy Corn cheese, or a Trick, and therefore 3 Ghoulgonzola cheese.
  • You may see a candy under your friend's picture; this is clickable, and will give you a piece of Halloween Candy! You may collect up to 10 candies per day this way.
  • It's also worthwhile to visit profiles of inactive friends for Cobwebs. You may collect up to 5 Cobwebs this way during the entire event.
  • You can go "trick or treating" on up to 10 profiles a day. Each day begins on midnight GMT. The MouseHunt Timer is useful for keeping track.
  • Note that the Haunted Terrortories are only open for Recruit and up. If you're still a Novice, don't despair; the special cheeses have a high attraction rate in the Meadow during the Halloween season, so feel free to use them there until you reach Recruit! What's more, they're effectively free, so you save gold buying cheese!
  • Note the status bar when you enter the Haunted Terrortories. This shows your progress through the three sub-locations: the Corn Field Maze, the Haunted Manor, and the Pumpkin Patch.
  • You need to catch mice with both special cheeses to advance to the next sub-location (this is done automatically; no travel is required). Each catch with Ghoulgonzola fills up the Mice Tricked bar, and each catch with Candy Corn fills up the Mice Treated bar.
  • Note that if you surpass the requirement for one side without fulfilling the other, the boxes do not fill past the next location symbol; and your cheese is wasted. For example, if you fill up the 10 "Mice Treated" boxes before the Haunted Manor symbol before filling up the 10 "Mice Tricked" boxes, any mice you continue to catch with Candy Corn cheese do not further contribute to your progress.
  • If you're short on special cheese, you can switch to hunting with regular cheese. Mice here occasionally drop Candy Corn or Ghoulgonzola cheese that you can continue to hunt with.
  • Here's a list of tips for each sub-location:
    • Corn Field Maze
      • This sub-location has indigenous mice (dressed for the occasion!), which should be able to be caught by most traps. It also features a few old and new event mice. Try using your luckiest setup to increase loot drops.
      • Hollowhead mice drop Candy Corn cheese or Ghoulgonzola cheese.
      • You need 10 mice tricked and 10 mice treated to advance to the next sub-location.
    • Haunted Manor
      • Tougher mice from the Shadow Clan group appear. Thus it is recommended to switch to your strongest Shadow or Arcane trap, if you have one.
      • If you don't have one, don't worry; all mice from the Corn Field Maze still exist, and the event mice can still be caught by physical traps.
      • You need an additional 20 mice tricked and 20 mice treated to advance to the next sub-location.
    • Pumpkin Patch
      • More Shadow Clan mice appear. You will also encounter event mice in greater frequency.
      • You need to trick 39 more mice, then catch a Trick Mouse that would be unlocked to fill the last box. You also need to treat 39 more mice, then catch a Treat Mouse that would be unlocked to fill the last box.
      • Trick and Treat mice are only attracted to the correct event cheese.
      • Treat mice drop the Halloween Scroll Case. Trick mice drop the Undead Halloween Scroll Case.
      • Once you've filled both bars, the Titanic Brain-Taker Mouse would be unlocked. Catch it using either event cheese. Once you've caught it, your progress is reset and you start from the Corn Field Maze again.
      • It drops the Undead Theme Scrap I and the Brain Extractor Piece. The extractor piece is used to buy the Brain Extractor from the Trapsmith. It will also cost you 237,000 gold and 10 Halloween Candies.
      • It is a Shadow weapon, stronger than the Bottomless Grave, but slightly weaker than the Gorgon Trap.
      • It can be upgraded to the Maniacal Brain Extractor. Note however that it cannot be used unless you have at least 25 million points. The crafting recipe is:
        • 1 Brain Extractor Parts (obtainable by smashing the Brain Extractor)
        • 1 Bolt of Cloth (from Great Gnarled Tree general store)
        • 1 King's Reserve Bubbleh (from Great Gnarled Tree GS)
        • 3 Rope (from Great Gnarled Tree GS)
        • 4 Tiny Platinum Bars (from Training Grounds GS)
        • 20 Invisi-glu (from Bazaar GS)
      • It is between the Clockapult of Time and the Reaper's Perch in strength. Note however, that it cannot be used for the Advanced Terrortories Research assignment in place of the regular Brain Extractor.
      • Both the Brain Extractor and the Maniacal Brain Extractor has the special property of collecting the Brain Bits crafting item. These are used to to craft Brain Charms:
        • 1 Simple Orb + 10 Brain Bits + 40 Charmbits = 1 Brain Charm
      • Brain Charms increase the chance of encountering zombie-type mice in the Haunted Terrortories. This is useful for completing Undead maps. They can also be obtained as loot, or by donating to the developers of the game via the Donate button.
    • Be sure to check out the Shoppes. You can trade in the Halloween Candies and Cobwebs you collected for some interesting new trap skins and helpful supplies.
    • Cobwebs can be gotten as loot from Cobweb mice, or they can be bought for 30 Halloween Candies each in the General Store.
    • If you have a strong Arcane trap, you may want to try using Spooky Charms, available from the Charm Shoppe, as gifts, or as random drops. These will attract harder mice, including mice from the Forgotten Clan to your trap, earning you more points and gold.
    • There are also two new bases in the Trapsmith: the Eerie Base (costs 120,000 gold + 10 Halloween Candies) and the Eerier Base (costs 320,000 gold + 10 Cobwebs, and requires ownership of the Eerie Base). They are very useful due to their high luck; get them unless you have a similarly powerful base, like the Snake Jade Base or Rift Base.
    • If you have access to the Crystal Library, you can also take special event library assignments there. There are two such assignments:
      • "Catalog Haunted Mice" gives a simple list of Haunted Terrortories mice to catch.
      • "Advanced Terrortories Research" is somewhat harder. You will need a Shadow-type and an Arcane-type trap. One of the tasks is always "Catch a Titanic Brain-Taker with a Brain Extractor". There are also Forgotten Clan mice thrown in; you can either use Spooky Charms, or go to the Forbidden Grove to get them. You might also get a task requiring a Bottomless Grave trap; if you don't have it and don't wish to buy it, you can smash the assignment from Inventory → Crafting → Hunter's Hammer.
    • There are also two profile themes to acquire.
      • The Halloween Theme was available during last year's event, so you may already have it. If you don't, here's how to get it:
        • The first scrap is a loot drop from the Swamp Thang mouse. He can be attracted in the Pumpkin Patch sub-location.
        • The second scrap is available as a reward for completing a Halloween Treasure Map.
        • The third scrap is bought in the General Store.
      • The Undead Theme is new to this event.
        • The first scrap is a loot drop from the Titanic Brain-Taker 'boss' mouse.
        • The second scrap is available as a reward for completing an Undead Treasure Map.
        • The third scrap is, again, bought in the General Store.
